This month, our Heightsman Award goes to Rob Whiting, a very well-known man, especially among the younger generation. Rob has been with the Gunnison Police department for 26 years and 17 years as community resource officer. As the community resource officer, Rob runs school based programs involving drug prevention, positive choices, and safe decision making for the youth of this community.
Rob was the founder of Safe Ride, he runs the local DARE program, and he is developing a responsible driving and car seat program for the community to be available for lower income households. Rob enjoys connecting with people throughout the community and building relationships with the people he serves. He continuously strives to install a servant attitude towards the youth and other members of this community that he truly loves being apart of.
We all are truly lucky to have such a wonderful person in our community, congratulations Rob!
***The Heightsman Award will be awarded monthly to any member of the Gunnison Valley that has had a positive influence on the community.
