Laurie Boscaro grew up in upstate New York. She received her BS in Science in Elementary Education at the State University of New York at Fredonia. While she was working on this degree she took a leave of absence in order to join an AmeriCorps program. She traveled the country doing many projects based out of Denver, CO. Laurie returned to NY to finish her degree but always knew she would eventually move back to Colorado. In 2002 Laurie moved to Crested Butte and fell in love with the valley. She now lives in Gunnison with her husband and two young boys.
Laurie’s background consists of teaching, social work, and counseling. She is a registered Psychotherapist with the State of Colorado through the Department of Regulatory Agencies, DORA. She is now finishing her Masters in Counseling with a focus on Clinical Mental Health through Adams State University. For the past 5 years Laurie has been counseling individuals and families in Gunnison County, facilitating FAST and WRAP teams for families with multi-agency involvement, and teaching a Love and Logic parenting class.
Laurie is thrilled to offer counseling to clients at Heights Performance. She is excited about joining this team of holistic practitioners. She offers her clients unconditional positive regard, a willingness to enter into their experience alongside them, genuine empathy, and a safe environment for processing. She represents herself as a consultant, not an expert. She is not there to give clients answers but rather to help them find their own.
Laurie believes there is a strong connection between physical health and mental health. Often times emotional challenges can show themselves in physical ways. By dealing with these emotional connections, clients will often find physical relief. Living with chronic pain can be quite challenging on many levels. As you address these challenges physically, it is also beneficial to address the emotional responses that arise while forming a new self-identity.
When Laurie is not working she enjoys playing with her children, mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing and snowboarding, hiking, camping, seeing live music, and simply enjoying the beautiful place in which we live.
